Men: If erectile dysfunction has become your new normal…let’s talk!

Most men aren’t quick to talk about the very common issue of erectile dysfunction (ED). And for good reason… It’s a condition that can negatively impact a man’s happiness and well-being.

But I’m here today to tell you that there’s a wealth of simple, non-drug solutions to treat this condition and get you back in the game.

Besides the obvious disruption of sexual activity, ED can also signal the risk of cardiovascular disease. So, guys, consult with your doctor if you start having trouble achieving or maintaining an erection on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, suggested ED intervention involves lifestyle changes that are good for your heart — and that’s no coincidence.

As a recent study shows, these changes can be surprisingly effective — and much safer than popping a little blue pill.

Natural solutions proven effective

Seeking a non-drug solution to ED is a good idea, especially since alarming issues related to these drugs are continuing to surface.

For instance, a recent German study looked at men who used various ED drugs after a radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. Results showed a link between the use of an ED drug and recurrent prostate cancer.

And of course, there are also side effects to these drugs — some of them well-known (flushing, headache, and vision changes), and some lesser known effects that are just starting to gain attention (muscle aches, diarrhea, heartburn, and hearing loss).

Plus, oftentimes, these drugs don’t even work that well.

But according to a study from Australia’s University of Adelaide, men can expect some truly positive, promising outcomes from a variety of non-drug approaches.

For five years, researchers tracked more than 800 men, ages 35 to 80, and found that nearly one in three developed some form of ED.

Given ED’s link to heart disease, this large percentage is concerning. But the Adelaide team also reported that a large proportion of men with ED had found natural ways to overcome their problems with sexual performance.

As one of the researchers explained, “The remission rate of those with erectile dysfunction was 29 percent, which is very high. This shows that many of these factors affecting men are modifiable, offering them an opportunity to do something about their condition.”

For erection success, go with the flow

The first step in finding a natural solution for ED is to eliminate factors that increase ED risk. And almost all of them involve blood circulation.

A vast network of blood vessels contribute to erections, so when blood circulation slows or is impeded, the mechanics required for an erection can’t operate fully.

And unfortunately — as Dr. Marc Micozzi points out in his Insider’s Ultimate Guide to Perfect Prostate Health — there are many factors that can play a role in poor circulation and other variables that prompt ED.

Here are just a few of the most common…

  • Excessive alcohol use. Dr. Micozzi recommends a drink or two with dinner to help support prostate and overall health, but excessive drinking causes vasoconstriction — the shrinking of blood vessels.
  • Calcium supplementation. Many older men take calcium supplements to protect their bones, but Dr. Micozzi advises against this. He notes that emerging science links calcium supplement use with hardening of the arteries — a primary cause of ED.
  • Obesity. Studies link obesity with blood vessel disease — another common source of ED.
  • Illegal drug use. Recreational drugs can damage your blood vessels, which interferes with blood flow, prompting ED.
  • Inactive lifestyle. Light to moderate exercise helps maintain good circulation. Without a little exercise every week, Dr. Micozzi says you’ll increase your ED risk.
  • Poorly managed diabetes. Again, blood flow is the issue. When blood sugar levels are controlled, chances of ED drop.
  • Heavy smoking. Dr. Micozzi cautions that smoking more than half a pack of cigarettes or two cigars every day promotes the hardening of your arteries — another cause of ED.
  • Sleep apnea and sleep deprivation. Some research has linked poor sleep with ED.
  • Stress and anxiety. Dr. Micozzi cites these as “leading causes” of temporary ED.

And in this age of conventional doctors prescribing drugs as quick-fix “solutions” for just about everything, Dr. Micozzi reminds us that a number of widely-used prescription drug classes are known to list ED as a potential side effect. These drugs include:

  • Anti-depressants
  • Antiarrhythmic drugs
  • Heartburn and reflux drugs
  • High blood pressure drugs
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Prostate cancer drugs

After eliminating blood circulation risk factors, Dr. Micozzi also offers four natural approaches to help you reverse ED.

The first is a botanical combination of South African rooibos and dandelion. Using 400 mg daily of each, researchers showed that the two herbals improved physical performance and stamina in men.

Dr. Micozzi also strongly recommends that you add 20 mg of lycopene to your daily supplement regimen. He cites a study in the journal Neurology that linked eating tomatoes and tomato-based foods rich in lycopene with improved circulation.

In fact, as I mentioned in a recent piece I sent you, Dr. Micozzi believes that lycopene is the single most important nutrient for overall prostate health.

And finally, Dr. Micozzi notes that the oyster’s reputation as an aphrodisiac is actually spot on. Oysters are rich in zinc — an antioxidant that helps support heart health. And it just so happens that your body’s highest concentration of zinc is in your prostate.

“Luckily,” Dr. Micozzi adds, “you can also find all of these ingredients together in a single, effective formula. Refer to my Resource Directory for more information.”
