Create a powerful defense against one of the most lethal cancers

Colon cancer is one of the most fatal cancers in the U.S. — almost as dangerous as lung and breast cancer.

Even more disturbing is a new report from France’s International Agency for Research on Cancer which concludes that the risk of developing this cancer is on the rise in younger people worldwide (ages 50 and under).

Researchers believe that this is due to poor diet, along with one of the most obvious results of a poor diet: Obesity.

Meanwhile, the rate of colon cancer has dropped slightly for one established risk group — the over-50 crowd. This is likely due in part to a change in the American Cancer Society’s guideline about colon cancer screenings. They now say screenings should begin at age 45 instead of 50.

That’s a good guideline, given that this disease is highly treatable when caught in the early stages. But age is by no means the major risk factor.

Fortunately, if you’re at risk of developing colon cancer, you can start taking several simple steps today to significantly reduce your danger. I’ll share those with you in just a minute.

But first, let’s talk about what raises your risk of colon cancer.

Assessing your risk of this deadly disease

In Dr. Fred Pescatore’s Essential Protocol to a Cancer-Free Future, he lists three major factors that constitute high risk:

  • Diabetes or blood sugar issues
  • Family history of colon polyps or colon cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease)

To a lesser degree, five more factors also increase risk:

  • Age — risk rises after age 50
  • Diet — particularly, a low intake of plant food fiber
  • Gender — men are more likely to develop colon cancer
  • Lifestyle — especially smoking, excess alcohol consumption, and lack of exercise
  • Race — African Americans have higher colorectal cancer rates than other races

As you can see, a majority of Americans can check the boxes on at least one or two of these risk factors — an urgent, red flag warning that nearly everyone can benefit from preventive measures.

A healthy colon repels cancer

The most obvious first steps for colon cancer prevention call for reducing risks. Obviously you can’t change family history, age, race, or gender. But you can lose weight, control your blood sugar, eat more fruits and veggies, stop smoking, and get regular exercise.

And once you’re underway with minimizing those modifiable risks in your life, Dr. Pescatore also recommends adding a few key supplements to your daily regimen.

For Dr. Pescatore, this one’s personal. As he notes in his protocol, he’s at very high risk of colon cancer because his father and two of his uncles died of the disease. So you can be sure he doesn’t make these recommendations lightly.

As he puts it, “It’s a no-brainer. If you want to prevent colon cancer, you have to improve the health of your colon.”

And the following supplements that can help you do just that:

  • Zinc carnosine — 100 mg per day

Dr. Pescatore notes that this supplement helps repair and stabilize the intestines, including the colon. He cites a study where researchers found that zinc carnosine healed the lining of inflamed bowels.

In another trial, researchers found that zinc carnosine significantly reduced intestinal erosions and ulcers caused by medication. “In fact,” Dr. Pescatore says, “zinc carnosine might help protect you if you ever get colon cancer. An animal study shows that the compound stops the diarrhea and weight loss associated with 5-Fluorouracil, the main chemotherapy drug for colon cancer.”

  • L-glutamine — 5,000 mg per day

This amino acid helps keep the mucosal lining of the intestines healthy. Dr. Pescatore adds that researchers have also found that L-glutamine may help protect and repair a colon ravaged by cancer.

He says, “In a review of nine studies on L-glutamine and colon cancer, the amino acid was shown to reduce side effects from chemotherapy (like a damaged gut lining and diarrhea), speed wound healing after cancer surgery, and shorten hospital stays. And in an animal study published in the journal Carcinogenesis, supplementation with L-glutamine dramatically reduced inflammation — and likewise dramatically reduced the growth of colon tumors.”

Two unlikely key cancer-fighters

When you think of licorice and aloe vera, you probably don’t think of cancer prevention, but two forms of these botanicals provide exactly that for your colon.

  • Deglycyrrhized licorice (DGL) — 500 mg per day

Research shows this supplement may inhibit the growth of colon cancer. It also helps relieve inflammation, which helps keep you — and your gut — healthy. “But don’t rely on Twizzlers to get these effects,” Dr. Pescatore warns. “The sugar in most licorice candy will negate any potential benefits. Instead, opt for a DGL supplement.”

  • Aloe vera extract — 250 mg per day

You may know aloe vera as a topical treatment, but in this supplement form it’s been shown to have anti-cancer properties. And Dr. Pescatore adds, “It also helps stimulate the bowels, keeping you regular — a critical component of colon health.” He cites an animal study in which aloe vera extract reduced colon tumors by 40 percent by decreasing inflammation and slowing the growth of cells.

Dr. Pescatore believes that these four supplements (along with a high-quality probiotic) will give your colon a powerful boost of cancer prevention — and quickly!

In his Essential Protocol to a Cancer-Free Future, he discusses three more excellent supplements that fight colon cancer, as well as many additional strategies for slashing your risk of a wide range of cancers.
