The sound-centric secrets for breaking the deadly cycle of chronic stress

Chronic stress isn’t a singular health risk — it’s like a dozen dangerous health risks, all targeting the critical systems of your body.

And chronic stress isn’t a “silent” killer, either. If you’re paying attention to your body, then you’re well aware of chronically high stress levels.

Are you having trouble sleeping? Do you crave “comfort” food? Are you drinking too much alcohol or coffee? Do you incessantly check email, texts, and social media? Are you short-tempered? Do you often feel overwhelmed day-in and day-out?

These are just a few typical responses to chronic stress, and they’re like SOS signals, urging you to get things under control. The problem is, there are many stress triggers that can’t be controlled…

The solution? Find a way to manage your response to stressors. This puts you — not the stress — back in the driver’s seat, taking control away from your triggers.

And you might be surprised at just how easy it can be to get a handle on your stress response…

But first, I want to shed some light on how chronic stress needs to be taken more seriously — given its prevalence and the fact that it can do some major damage to your body, if you let it…

Dragging down the healing process

According to the Mayo Clinic, long-term activation of the stress-response system prompts overexposure to stress hormones, like cortisol, that increase your risk of a myriad of health problems.

And you might be surprised how many of them can be traced back to chronic stress. Health issues like:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Digestive problems
  • Headaches
  • Heart disease
  • Memory and concentration impairment
  • Sleep problems
  • Weight gain

“That’s why,” the Mayo article adds, “it’s so important to learn healthy ways to cope with your life stressors.”

But is “coping” enough?

Not in my view. You need to effectively manage and overcome stress so that your body is better suited to promote healing and improved health.

This is exactly the stress relief philosophy Jim Donovan describes in his Whole Body Sound Healing System.

Jim explains that when you’re stressed, your body devotes most of its energy and resources to managing this stress. And that means your body has less energy available to devote to healing itself.

Ultimately, if stress becomes chronic, Jim adds, your healing process slows to a crawl.

He says, “Chronic stress makes your healing process slower. It affects immunity and alters tissue repair. In other words, the more stressed you are, the LONGER it takes for your body to rebuild and heal itself. Your immune system plays a crucial role in every healing process.”

Harnessing the power of sound

In his protocol, Jim calls stress “the thief who steals your years” because unchecked, chronic stress can lead to stroke, heart attack, and diabetes — just to name a few of the most dangerous outcomes.

And what’s worse, he says, is that “ignoring chronic stress makes it more likely that you lose YEARS of an active life.”

With that in mind, Jim has developed simple stress reduction techniques using self-made sound.

Jim says, “In my years of teaching, I’ve shown thousands of people how to perform techniques that help you live a life free from chronic stress.”

Jim’s approach is centered around a simple but powerful idea. As he puts it, “Sound is vibration, and vibration is energy moving.”

To demonstrate how this idea works, Jim compares it to what we do when we’re weary from a day of worrying or over-thinking. Sometimes, we feel tense to the point that a headache may set in. And what do we do to ease this head pain?

“Besides popping a few aspirin,” Jim says, “you might also lift your hands to your temples and begin to massage them. Moving these small muscles on the side of your head relieves tension. In fact, our natural reaction when tense or sore is to use our hands to ‘move’ or rub the area in pain.”

Of course, there are other places in your body that may also need stress relief, but you’re physically unable to massage the tension away. And this, Jim says, is where sound comes in. He continues, “…you can help to relieve and ‘open’ any part of your head and torso that’s tense using the power of sound.”

Use your body’s built-in power to alleviate stress

Among the many studies Jim cites in his Whole Body Sound Healing System, one in particular shows how soothing and relaxing self-made sound can be.

Researchers recruited 31 participants with depression and taught them to make a humming sound — like a buzzing bumblebee — and instructed them to do this in twenty-minute sets. After eight weeks, brain scans showed an increase in theta range activity — similar to the activity of brains in meditation.

In addition, participants reported less depression, irritability, and anxiety — an ideal foundation for reducing stress!

Jim’s approach includes this type of self-made sound — which he calls “Brain Humming” — with another original technique he’s developed called “Brain Tapping.”

By practicing these simple techniques with precise repetitions, Jim believes that anyone can enter a deep healing mode that can melt away anxieties, tension, and stress that build up in your body.

“The relaxation effects of sound,” Jim says, “let your body use its resources to replenish your health.”

In addition to stress relief, Jim also demonstrates (in easy-to-follow, step-by-step videos) exactly how his brain humming and brain tapping techniques can relieve headaches, improve sleep, reduce depression, and much more.
