Two tools you need to drown out even the most nagging food cravings

Sometimes food cravings can really take hold of you. And sometimes, they’re powerful enough to undo even the best intentions to eat right and curb excessive calorie intake.

We’ve all been there…

And while food cravings can play tricks on your mind and willpower, luckily there are a few tricks you can keep up your sleeve to resist even the most nagging desires…

The free hunger fighter you can use today

One of the easiest and most effective ways to derail hunger is to drink a glass (or two) of cold water.

And this is backed up by science. Researchers in the Netherlands used simultaneous MRI scans of the stomach and functional MRI scans of brain activity on subjects who drank either small or large amounts of water with a milkshake.

Results showed — as the researchers put it — that the brain “listens” to the stomach.

The scans revealed that drinking more water modifies messages the stomach sends to the brain, letting the brain know the stomach is full.

Of course, if you’ve gone without food for a few hours and you’re genuinely hungry, you can always eat your water…

In Dr. Fred Pescatore’s Metabolic Repair Protocol, he explains that certain foods contain high levels of water, meaning they’ll fill you up faster, while also helping with weight loss.

Here are a few of the water-rich foods Dr. Pescatore recommends, along with each food’s water content…

  • Lettuce: 95%
  • Zucchini: 95%
  • Cucumbers: 95%
  • Broccoli: 90%
  • Cauliflower: 90%
  • Spinach: 90%
  • Yogurt: 85%
  • Cottage Cheese: 80%
  • Mozzarella Cheese: 50%

Obviously, these foods are optimal for snacking and will take the edge off your hunger between meals. But they obviously won’t hit the spot if you’re dreaming of biting into a candy bar or digging into a bag of chips.

For that kind of craving, you’ll need something a little more powerful…

You best weapon against full-blown sugar addiction

While you’re drinking that glass of water to help stave off your snacking cravings, you might as well take a couple of supplements too.

Dr. Pescatore’s Metabolic Repair Protocol is obviously focused on metabolic health, but among the many key supplements he recommends for metabolic control, two stand out for the way they also put a lid on appetite and cravings.

The first is L-glutamine — an amino acid that Dr. Pescatore calls a “world-class craving killer and your best weapon for fighting a full-blown sugar addiction.”

Dr. Pescatore explains that L-glutamine works on cravings by inhibiting insulin release. This helps prevent the hard blood-sugar crashes that so often trigger intense sugar cravings.

In addition, he points out that L-glutamine also stimulates your body to release stored glucose (called glycogen) in order to get low blood sugar back on track. In fact, this unique amino acid is even able to stand in for sugar when your body really needs the energy.

“In a nutshell,” Dr. Pescatore says, “L-glutamine ensures that your blood sugar never gets low enough that your body hits the panic button. My recommendation: 500 mg of L-glutamine three times a day OR whenever a craving hits.”

The choice trace mineral for cravings and diabetes patients

At the top of Dr. Pescatore’s supplement list for metabolic health is a trace mineral called chromium. And as Dr. Pescatore notes, it doesn’t top his list by accident.

He explains that chromium is vital to blood sugar regulation, which makes it an ideal supplement for hypoglycemics and diabetics in particular.

“In fact,” he says, “a study conducted using a population of elderly, diabetic patients found that regular chromium supplementation helped moderate glucose intolerance, improve HbA1c, lower cholesterol, and lower triglyceride levels.”

And the chromium bonus: It curbs sugar and food cravings.

Dr. Pescatore adds, “Since it’s exceedingly difficult to get this nutrient from food, I recommend taking it in supplement form. My recommendation: 200 mcg of chromium three times a day.”

With these commonly found and completely affordable diet tools, you’ll be well on your way to superior control over your cravings, good metabolic health, and optimal weight.
