Is there a shocking link between coronavirus and vitamin D?!

Back in  2017, before coronavirus was on the forefront of our minds, medical researchers discovered a stunning link between vitamin D and respiratory infections. And it turns out, this link may hold the key to battling the ongoing pandemic we’re all facing.

The study, which was published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), assessed the overall effect of vitamin D supplementation on the risk of acute respiratory tract infection. The study consisted of 25 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials with nearly 11,000 participants.

And the results showed a clear reduction in respiratory infections among all participants taking vitamin D supplements.

With this study in mind, medical scientist Mark Alipio at Davao Doctors College in the Philippines recently decided to assess the effect of vitamin D on coronavirus.

Using the database of three hospitals in southern Asian, Alipio obtained information on the vitamin D blood levels of 212 coronavirus patients.

He found that the odds of having a mild case of coronavirus increased when vitamin D blood levels are high, while chances of having a more complicated case were higher among those with low vitamin D levels.

While these are very promising results, more research still needs to be conducted before we can confirm vitamin D’s effectiveness against coronavirus. But it’s clear that vitamin D can help protect your lungs in several ways. Let’s take a closer look…

No doubt about it—your lungs love vitamin D

In Dr. Marc Micozzi’s Breathe Better Lung Health Protocol, he singles out vitamin D as one of the most essential nutrients for nurturing your lungs. In fact, he calls D “the No. 1 vitamin for disease-proof lungs.”

That’s because this vitamin not only strengthens your lungs, but also reduces your risk of many common lung diseases, including:

  • Asthma: Dr. Micozzi cites a study where vitamin D reduced the risk of serious asthma attacks by a third, and the need for emergency medical care by 60 percent. Also, study participants who had a history of smoking significantly improved their lung function when they took vitamin D.
  • COPD: In one COPD study, vitamin D reduced exacerbations (flare-ups) of the disease by nearly 50 percent.
  • Lung cancer: A meta-analysis of a dozen studies involving close to 300,000 participants found that those with the highest blood levels of vitamin D had 17 percent less risk of lung cancer compared to people with the lowest levels.

In short, there’s no question that vitamin D is one of the cornerstones of good lung health.

Dr. Micozzi recommends taking 10,000 IU (or 250 mcg) of vitamin D3 daily.

In addition to vitamin D, add these essentials…

Of course, vitamin D isn’t the only nutrient that your lungs need for powerful, everyday support. Dr. Micozzi also highly recommends vitamin C.

He cites a clinical trial that included 9,000 participants. Researchers found that lung cancer risk drops by 7 percent for every 100 mg of vitamin C that you consume daily.

Dr. Micozzi recommends you eat plenty of vitamin C-rich foods like citrus, leafy green vegetables, and peppers—the hotter the better. Rose hips are also very high in C and can be brewed in herbal teas.

He also believes a daily C supplement is essential: 1,000 mg per day, divided into two doses several hours apart to ensure a consistent level.

And when you make your grocery list, he suggests you include seven to eight servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day—especially carotenoid-rich produce such as carrots, sweet potatoes, red peppers, squash, pumpkin, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapefruit, and tangerines.

Carotenoids are the pigmented compounds that give plants their brilliant yellows, oranges, and reds. And they also dramatically improve lung function. In fact, Dr. Micozzi notes they can even reverse smoke-related effects on the lungs and reduce the risk of lung cancer by up to 35 percent.

These are just a few of the lung-boosting tips you’ll find in Dr. Micozzi’s Breathe Better Lung Health Protocol. There’s never been a more critical time to take care of your lungs, so click here to learn more about this indispensable protocol, or to enroll today.
