The glass is “half-full” when it comes to prostate cancer prevention

Two years ago, a leading medical journal published a study that opened with this statement: “Moderate red wine consumption does not significantly increase the risk of prostate cancer.”

And to that, Dr. Marc Micozzi can only shake his head and say, “What a strange choice of wording.”

Why? Well, as Dr. Micozzi points out in his Insider’s Ultimate Guide to Perfect Prostate Health, the new study actually found that men who drink moderate amounts of red wine gain significant protection against prostate cancer.

“So, that headline,” Dr. Micozzi says, “is like saying, ‘Wearing a seat belt doesn’t significantly increase your risk of getting hurt in a car accident.’ You can clearly see how it was spun to hold a negative connotation.

“If I had to guess, it’s likely due to mainstream medicine’s prohibitionist agenda. You’d better not tout the benefits of alcohol too loudly!”

The study was a meta-analysis of 17 high-quality studies. Researchers assessed the effects of red wine consumption on prostate cancer risk in 610,000 men worldwide.

And after taking a closer (and unbiased) look at their analysis, the results clearly showed that drinking one glass of red wine per day reduced the men’s prostate cancer risk by 12 percent.

To further illustrate red wine’s health benefits, Dr. Micozzi points to another key study that found “men who drank four glasses of red wine weekly demonstrated a 50 percent reduction in prostate cancer risk.” They also found red wine to be especially protective against more aggressive types of prostate cancer.

So, how does a glass of red wine manage to protect the prostate? Dr. Micozzi dives into the details…

The power of potent polyphenols

Dr. Micozzi firmly believes we can thank plant compounds called polyphenols for this benefit.

Many studies have shown that polyphenols in red wine protect against cancer and other chronic diseases. And they’ve also been shown to protect the blood against oxidative stress, and benefit blood clotting and insulin sensitivity.

Plus Dr. Micozzi points out that red wine has 10 times more polyphenol content than white wine.

And he adds, “I can only speculate the researchers want to find a single ‘magic bullet’ ingredient that they can develop into an expensive drug treatment.

“I say let’s stop with all the repetitive, unnecessary research. And simply encourage men to enjoy more red wine.”

“So go ahead,” he says, “and enjoy a nice glass of red wine with your steak dinner tonight. The science is on your side!”

Throughout Dr. Micozzi’s Insider’s Ultimate Guide to Perfect Prostate Health, you’ll find that science is firmly on the side of using natural approaches to prevent, manage, and even reverse prostate cancer and other prostate conditions.
