Why you should reject ALL new diabetes drugs

For years now, Dr, Marc Micozzi has rejected all new and expensive diabetes drugs that hit the market. And he thinks you should too—with very good reason…

In his Integrative Protocol for Defeating Diabetes, Dr. Micozzi cites a study revealing that 90 percent of all drugs approved by the FDA over the past three decades are no more effective—or just slightly more effective—than older, approved drugs.

Dr. Micozzi explains, “That statistic means only 10 percent of new drugs over the last 30 years represented true, therapeutic breakthroughs.”

Plus, the newer, more expensive type 2 diabetes drugs have all kinds of problems with safety and effectiveness. Three of the newest type 2 diabetes drugs perfectly illustrate this point…

  • Dapagliflozin
  • Canagliflozin
  • Embagliflozin

These drugs are “SGLT2 inhibitors.” They work by causing the body to excrete blood sugar through the urine. They can also lead to ketoacidosis, a serious condition where the body produces high levels of dangerous blood acids and ketone chemicals.

But Dr. Micozzi points out that SGLT2 inhibitors aren’t the only diabetes drugs that put patients at risk. Newer thiazolidinedione diabetes drugs have been shown to cause major issues too. For instance:

  • Januvia®—one of Merck’s top-selling products—is twice as likely to cause hospitalization for acute pancreatitis when compared to older drugs.
  • Avandia® and Actos® can prompt weight gain, edema, congestive heart failure, and bone fracture.
  • Glucotrol®, Diabeta®, Micronase®, and Glynase® can cause low blood sugar attacks, pancreatitis, fungal infections, and intestinal side effects like nausea and vomiting.

Dr. Micozzi wonders why any doctor would prescribe these dangerous drugs, especially when there’s a safe, effective, and affordable medication that tens of millions of people around the world have taken for decades.

In fact, it’s one of the very few drugs that Dr. Micozzi approves of. I’m talking about metformin.

Dr. Micozzi explains, “In terms of safety and effectiveness profiles,” he says, “there is virtually no reason to take any drug other than metformin for high blood sugar. If your doctor recommends a different medication, ask why.

“Unless there is a very specific reason you should be taking a different drug, ask if you can try metformin first, or switch to metformin from the diabetes drug you’re currently taking.”

He also points out that metformin reduces the risk of a number of health dangers linked to diabetes, including heart disease, vision loss, kidney failure, and dementia. And it even gives your weight management efforts a boost.

At the end of the day, of course, metformin is still a drug and should be taken with care. And even though Dr. Micozzi recommends it, he still notes that there are many natural blood sugar control treatments he would try first before using metformin.
