Detoxification decreases inflammation—the driver behind all disease

An effective detoxification strategy can transform your health in countless ways. Not only can it protect you from dangerous environmental toxins… it can also increase energy, promote weight loss, improve sleep, and—perhaps most important—decrease inflammation.

As Dr. Pescatore has explained many times before, inflammation is the key driver behind nearly all major diseases—and decreasing it should be your No. 1 health priority.

With that said, here’s Dr. Pescatore seven-day detox plan:

  • DAYS 1-2: Drink only water and plain herbal teas, consistently throughout the day.
  • DAY 3: Drink water, herbal teas, and nutritious bone broth.
  • DAY 4: Water, herbal teas, broths, and organic, free-range eggs.
  • DAY 5: Water, herbal teas, broths, eggs, and organic avocados.
  • DAY 6: Water, herbal teas, broths, eggs, avocados, and nutritious nuts, such as pistachios, walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts. (He notes that you can have them raw or lightly salted—whichever you prefer.)
  • DAY 7: Water, herbal teas, broths, eggs, avocado, nuts, and light, flaky, wild-caught fish like cod or halibut.

Dr. Pescatore recommends this cleanse twice per year to help you eliminate accumulated toxins. He usually detoxes at the beginning of January (post-holiday season) and at the end of June (to prepare for summer vacation).

Additionally, Dr. Pescatore recommends taking a brief hiatus from most nutritional supplements while you’re detoxing. However, there are two supplements he believes aids the process:

  • A good probiotic

Dr. Pescatore suggests you take a high-quality, multi-strain probiotic twice a day to help support elimination and to promote bacterial balance during and after your detox.

  • A comprehensive detox support formula

Look for a detox formula that includes milk thistle (for support of your liver—your main detox organ), curcumin (which promotes bile flow), conjugating amino acids (to bind and eliminate toxins), chlorella (a green algae that binds heavy metals), and the herbs uva ursi leaf and stinging nettle (to help your urinary tract and kidneys flush out metabolic waste).

Dr. Pescatore notes that you should continue taking any prescribed medications during your detox because they shouldn’t be discontinued abruptly. He also advises talking to your doctor before starting a detox regimen.
